Shōken was a physician and herbalist interested in medicinal plants. In 1848 he authored a picture book entitled Keien Tachibana Fu (Keien’s Orange Album). It included the thirty-four pictures of citrus flowers and fruits shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Each of the pictures was drawn in a true-to-life way.
